Sustainability
Golden Aluminum is dedicated to using sustainable practices in its operations. From our day-to-day business, to the community in which we work, our company is committed to integrating new ways to be more efficient in our practices; thereby reducing our impact on the environment. Although we are a small aluminum company by comparison, we like to believe we can do big things to change the way our industry does business by reducing our own carbon footprint.

We take a proactive approach to sustainable business practices, and have implemented a number of programs to improve our environmental footprint. Following are a few of the ways we incorporate sustainability into every component of our business.
  • In 2009 Golden Aluminum consumed 6.7 million pounds of used beverage containers, which is the equivalent of recycling 141,277,227 aluminum cans.
  • Our 5017 alloy is made from between 95 to 97% recycled aluminum.
  • The cores used by Golden Aluminum are made of 100% recycled material.
  • 30 to 50% of our production uses recycled aluminum for its raw material.

GOLDEN BLOCK CASTER
Golden Aluminum's Golden Block Caster is the most efficient in the industry. The Golden Block Caster process is an unrivaled mini mill that can deliver short runs and fast turnarounds using less energy.

OUR CONTINUOUS CASTING TECHNOLOGY
This technology is energy efficient with greater flexibility than the standard aluminum industry sheet technology. Golden Aluminum is the only aluminum facility that uses continuous casting technology, the Golden Block Caster. This cuts our energy use in the production process, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

SHIPPING
12 of our 14 shippers participate in the EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership an innovative brand that represents environmentally cleaner, more fuel-efficient transportation options. The SmartWay brand identifies products and services that reduce transportation-related emissions. All of EPA SmartWay transportation programs result in significant, measurable air quality and/or greenhouse gas improvements while maintaining or improving current levels of other emissions and pollutants.

RECYCLED PALLETS
35% of all pallets that are used in our plant are recycled. Pallets unable to be reused are turned into mulch for landscaping.

"LIGHTS OUT"
Our lights are managed by motion detectors and only come on when employees are working in that room. When we leave a room, the lights go out saving 3,000 kilowatts in energy usage each year.

Americans go through more than 1 million pounds of aluminum every day. The great thing about aluminum products is that they are made for 100% recycling. That means every piece of aluminum you recycle can be reused.

When you recycle, you are not only reducing waste, you are also saving the energy it takes to make a brand new aluminum product. In as little as 60 days, your recycled can reappears on the shelf as a brand new container.

Here are just a few ways you can make an impact:

  • Organize a community can recycling drive.
  • Set up recycling at your home or office.
  • If you don't have recycling pick-up, offer to take the recycled cans from your office to the nearest recycling location.
