With
our patented process, we have mastered the mini mill.
Our pledge is to deliver the finest aluminum sheet, no
matter your time constraints or special requirements.
BREAKING UP We start with
baled, used beverage containers, or UBCs, sending them through our uniquely
designed shredding system that cuts them into uniformly sized pieces.
DE LACQUERING By heating
the UBCs, we remove any coatings and trace moisture, being careful to
incinerate any leftover gases to prevent pollution. Surplus heat is returned
to the kiln because we don’t believe in waste.
MELTING The UBCs along with
prime and other scrap aluminum are fed into the melting furnace forming
a pool of liquid aluminum. This is where blending occurs depending on
your requirements.
STRENGTHENING The liquid
aluminum is now strengthened and made more formable by adding alloying
elements to the mixture. All alloys meet the Aluminum Association’s
designed requirements while allowing us to use up to 95% recycled aluminum.
CLEANING Liquid aluminum
then flows into cleaning units of the molten metal treatment facility
where a special blend of gases are injected to extract impurities. Through
all these steps, we test for chemical composition to ensure that the exact
chemistry is maintained.
THE CASTER The liquid aluminum
now arrives at the most technologically advanced continuous caster in
the world, the Lauener Block Caster. We use chilling blocks to maintain
a consistent solidification rate as the product travels through the caster.
HOT MILL The continuous
slab exits the caster and reaches our hot rolling mill at 3/4 inch thickness.
Exiting the hot mill, it is reduced to less than 1/8th of an inch.
COLD MILL The aluminum sheet
is finished to gauges from .005 inches up to .032 inches, within tolerances
of +/- .0002 inches. At this point we can apply any coating or color.
Our process allows us to deliver your order in record time... each time.
FINISHING At this stage
the sheet is tension leveled then is either cleaned and/or coated before moving to be slit to your required width. From here it is on to packaging and shipping
to your location. |
